Rock Guard
Winterguard 2007-2008
«
The
Rock Guard will be participating in the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) in
Scholastic A Class (SA) and in Winter Guard International (WGI) in Scholastic A
Class (SA)
«
We
will compete with 20-30 members. We may not,
by TCGC and WGI organizational rules, consist of more than 30 members. Students are selected for the group by the
staff and are judged on an individual basis
«
The
Rock Guard will rehearse on Monday and Thursday evenings from
«
Rehearsals
are closed until the last 15 minutes.
Open rehearsals will be announced as those dates draw near. Everyone is invited to open rehearsals.
«
We
will use alternates who are determined by the staff. Alternates will be given notice of their
status on a need to know basis.
Alternates are members of the Rock Guard and are held to all of the same
standards. Alternates are not
necessarily permanent.
«
Rehearsal
attire: black unitards
with black “soffe” style shorts. Bare feet only on the tarp; feet in shoes,
sandals or flip flops everywhere else.
No bare feet anywhere but the tarp.
No rings, necklaces, or dangling ear rings. No watches.
Hair pulled back out of your face.
«
Rehearsal
breaks will occasionally be called by the directors. Members may take restroom and water breaks as
needed throughout rehearsal. Members
will keep a personal water jug in the gymnasium for this purpose. Members may not share water from their
jugs. This is a privilege and a matter
of personal responsibility.
«
Members
should maintain healthy eating habits. A
balanced diet with plenty of water.
«
Members
are expected to maintain healthy study habits.
A consistent, well-lit and silent place to study and complete
assignments is the best solution for this.
During your study time, turn off your phone and your music and focus
completely on the task at hand, just like you are asked to do in guard
rehearsals.
«
A
code of ethics is in place in the WGI rulebook.
Any negative behavior by WGI performers, staff, parents and supporters
will not be tolerated. This includes
comments to other groups, disruptive behavior in stands, warm-up areas or
contest sites. Instructors and directors
and competing units may lose privileges at contests if the problem is traced to
that unit.
«
Internet
usage: Please understand that each
member is vital to the program’s success.
Your words and actions are monitored by others. Stay away from internet chat rooms and
positive/negative comments concerning the program and any other program. Do not post video to the internet! Copy write laws exist for the reproduction of
music and performances. NOTE – it is
extremely rare to read either positive or negative comments online from great
guard programs across the country.
«
Infractions
of the rules of the Round Rock High School Student/Parent handbook will be dealt
with on a case by case basis and may result in dismissal from the guard.
«
Fees
for the 2007-2008 Winterguard season: $360
o December 15th $120
o January 26th $120
o February 23rd $120
«
The Rock
Guard will travel by charter bus to locations near Houston and Dallas and by
school bus to locations nearer Round Rock.
«
The
Rock Guard will travel with a floor crew.
Floor crew members may be band students, parents or other
supporters. Floor crew will abide by the
rules set forth in the WGI rulebook and in the Round Rock High School
Student/Parent Handbook. Infractions of
the rules will result in the floor crew member’s dismissal. Floor crew members must purchase a show/floor
crew shirt to be worn at all contests.
Floor crew will rehearse several times beginning in January. Exact dates will be announced as they
approach.
«
The
member or a parent of a late or absent member needs to call before rehearsal
begins to notify the directors of the student’s tardiness or absence.

Cell
Students; the Rock Guard has had a tremendous fall marching season
and is well underway transitioning into winterguard. Every effort has been made to create a
competitive, exciting and fun product for you to perform and each of you will
be striving for higher goals than last season.
If this is your first season, buckle up and hang on, we’re going all out
at each rehearsal. As an elective, the
Rock Guard is something you are part of because you elect to do it. You enjoy it, it challenges and rewards you
and you want to be the best at it. To be
the best takes preparation…each rehearsal, every time. Be your best!
Parents; we appreciate your support, your encouragement and your love
for your child. Please continue to
encourage their efforts here at school.
Grades are terrifically important as are building skills your daughter
can take with her for life. Skills like
teamwork, personal responsibility and organization are a few that are stressed
to the students. “Taking care of
business” in the classroom while maintaining a busy social life, a job and an
elective is tough work for anyone but is certainly possible. There are over 200 students in the band and
guard programs at

David Mobley Michael
