Rehearsal/Performance Absence Policy

I. Absence from Rehearsal – Marching & Concert Season

When missing rehearsals, a parent will need to either e-mail Mr. Stein or call at 464-6026 ahead of the absence. A call from the student will not be acceptable.

Acceptable Reasons for missing morning/afternoon sectionals:

·        Personal illness

·        Family emergencies

o       Obviously, situations will arise in other areas. These will be handled on an individual basis

Unacceptable Reasons for missing morning/afternoon sectionals

• Orthodontist appointments (yes, there will inevitably be a time when these can't be avoided. However, if you work ahead far enough, most orthodontists will work with student extracurricular schedules)
• Other doctor appointments that can be avoided by planning ahead
• Problems finding a ride
• Check with director if in doubt

Consequences for student missing a rehearsal without notifying Mr. Stein ahead of time include, but are not limited to:

• Possible loss of marching spot
• Possible suspension from subsequent performances

II.  Absent from Performances - Marching & Concert Season

When missing a performance, a parent will need to either e-mail Mr. Stein or call at 464-6026 ahead of the absence. A call from the student will not be acceptable.

Acceptable Reasons for missing absence from a performance:

·        Personal illness

·        Family emergencies

·        The rare occasion of a direct conflict with another school activity (volleyball game, etc.)

Consequences for student missing a performance without notifying Mr. Stein ahead of time include, but are not limited to:

• Possible loss of marching spot
• Possible suspension from subsequent performances
• Loss of leadership position
• Removal from band
• 30% reduction of 6-weeks grade

III.   Rehearsal/Performance Tardy Policy

When a student is late to any rehearsal, a parent will follow up with either an e-mail to Mr. Stein or call to 464-6026.

Acceptable reasons for being tardy to any rehearsal, marching or concert season:

• Entrance to rehearsal from private lesson
• Held over by from previous class

Consequences for unexcused tardy to marching rehearsal (tardy being not being in set position at drum major’s call, 7:00 a.m. or 4:30 p.m.) include, but are not limited to:

• 5 minutes of fundamental drill at the end of the rehearsal. Student will perform the fundamental drill to metronome.
• March fundamentals in the "tardy line" at the front of the block.  

****Two unexcused tardies will result in suspension for next performance or loss of marching spot.
