Band-Specific Requirements

 

Wind Ensemble

·        Performance of marching contest music by memory

·        Participation in marching band

·        Each student will try out for All-Region Band

·        Each student will perform a  solo or an ensemble at the region UIL solo/ensemble contest. Both are encouraged.

·        Students will turn in a cd/tape of region music at points during the fall semester as determined by Mr. Stein to aid in preparation for tryouts

·        Each student is strongly encouraged to take private lessons on his/her instrument to aid in highest possible musical achievement

o       (individualized instruction is virtually impossible during band practice, and lack of private instruction hinders musical progress of the individual and, by extension, the group)

·        Preparation and performance of concert music and tapes/CDs as assigned by director

·        Attendance at section rehearsals and/or full band rehearsals before or after school

o        Students who do not try out for All-Region Band will be removed from Wind Ensemble at the end of the 1st semester

 

Symphonic Band

·        Performance of marching contest music by memory

·        Participation in marching band

·        Each student will perform in an ensemble at the UIL Region Solo/Ensemble contest. Solos are encouraged.

·        Each student is encouraged to take private lessons on his/her instrument

·        Each student will be encouraged to perform a solo at the UIL Region Solo/Ensemble contest

·        Preparation and performance of concert music and tapes/CDs as assigned by director

·        Attendance at section rehearsals and/or full band rehearsals before or after school

 

Concert Band

·        Performance of marching contest music by memory

·        Participation in marching band

·        Each student will perform in a UIL ensemble for the class the week of solo/ensemble contest. This will be a significant portion of the six-weeks grade.

·        Each student will be encouraged to perform a solo at the UIL Region Solo/Ensemble contest

·        Preparation and performance of concert music and tapes/CDs as assigned by director

·        Attendance at section rehearsals and/or full band rehearsals before or after school
