Rehearsal Expectations

Rehearsal Preparedness

v        9:05, 1040, 12:22 – Wind Players in chairs

             1. Pencil

             2. Rehearsal books and music, all supplies necessary for the entire rehearsal.

             3. Instrument ready to play – reeds/ligatures prepared, etc.

             4. You’ll need your own copy of every piece of music we’re rehearsing.

v        9:25 – Percussionists set up, ready for rehearsal

Rehearsal

v        Do not leave your chair during rehearsal for rest room, to get items from lockers, etc.

v        Exhibit correct posture, preparation, and breathing each and every time you play.

v        Find something to improve with regards to your playing each and every time you play.

v        Set the highest expectations possible for yourself as an individual performer.

v        Never bring books or study material to RRHS band rehearsal. Music and instrument only to your chair.

v        Cell phones used during rehearsals will be taken. Parent will need to reclaim cell phone.

Practicing

v      If you cannot play something during the rehearsal, and the director must play all parts very slowly while the band waits, consider it your personal responsibility to the rest of the ensemble to practice that part and have it ready for the next rehearsal.

v      As one section is practicing, find technically difficult parts in any/all of your band music, or have your All-Region music on the stand to finger through challenging parts.

Rehearsal Ethic and Attitude

v      Remember that is not a right but a privilege to share musical rehearsal time with this unique group of students.

v      Each student deserves the maximum efforts of every other student in the ensemble each time the ensemble plays.

v      Do you think that anything at all is simple to play? Elevate your listening skills and evaluative abilities. Pretend that you’re standing in front of the ensemble. Contribute by making rehearsal suggestions, etc.
