Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,

Our All State students had a great time at TMEA in San Antonio last week.  The directors attended meetings, clinics and concerts as the students prepared for their All State concerts on Saturday.  ALSO, good luck to the winterguard attending their second competition at Veteran’s Memorial High School!

    • These brief rehearsals are not required and are open to all interested students as we begin learning portions of music for next fall’s marching shows

    • As we go through the semester we’ll work on bits of both Legacy and Horizon shows at these rehearsals

Dell Diamond Performance

  • CenTex RV Show

  • Yes, I also did not know live entertainment was part of an RV show but here we are  :)

  • Student Leaders and Battery only

  • Saturday, February 28th

  • Students will drive on their own (no bus)

  • The band will receive a small donation from the show sponsors

  • AND we’ll get 60 free tickets to the RV Show, first come, first served!


April Recitals

  • April 13th, 14th, 15th or 16th, 6:00-8:45*

  • 1200 Main Building Foyer area

  • Hour length (approx) segments of students performing for friends and families

    • Students won’t be there for the full time, but will be there for about an hour to an hour and a half depending on when they’re scheduled to perform

  • Students will perform a short solo, duet, trio or quartet on one of the 4 evenings

  • Instrumental Choirs also perform!  Students in these  ensembles  (sax choir, tuepha choir, etc.) may perform on multiple evenings

  • We want all students to prepare and perform a recital


Attendance

  • If your student is well enough to attend school, they should be coming to practice and events unless they get sick in the middle of the day and are sent home by the nurse

  • Look ahead at the rehearsal and event schedule and plan your appointments and tutorial help around it

  • Attendance at rehearsals and events is mandatory unless otherwise specified

  • Absences due to sickness are excused with notification from a parent if the student has a fever, is vomiting or cannot otherwise get out of bed

  • Absences due to prolonged sickness/injury are excused with a doctor's note

  • Who do I email?  Mr. Mobley for Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony, Ms. Benford for Symphonic Band, Ms. Bouhadana for Concert Band, Mr. Hammack for all Percussion and Mr. Mendieta for Color Guard

  • Absences that are not excused-birthdays, completing homework, studying, test preparation, part time job, pop concerts, parties, vacations, weekend getaways

Grades and Eligibility

  • RRISD Eligibility Calendar

  • Students must remain academically eligible to participate in football games and marching contest performances and all TMEA activities

  • Should a student become ineligible they will still practice with the group during band class and in some cases, outside of the school day

  • There are two types of official grade reporting - IPR (Interim Progress Report) and Report Card

  • We are required to go by these official methods to determine eligibility
