With numerous events coming soon, there are lots of schedules to look over!

ALL CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR THE UIL AREA MARCHING CONTEST!  ALL HANDS ON DECK!

  • You are needed and there are many opportunities to help!

  • Round Rock Dragon Band Boosters are the host for this event and the UIL Region Marching Contest on October 14th

  • Most spots are adult/parent only, but JV students can (and are encouraged to) help in some areas (marked on sign-up) WITH a parent.

Attendance

  • If your student is well enough to attend school, they should be coming to practice and events unless they get sick in the middle of the day and are sent home by the nurse

  • Look ahead at the rehearsal and event schedule and plan your appointments and tutorial help around it

  • The band's calendar is on dragonband.com

  • Attendance at rehearsals and events is mandatory unless otherwise specified

  • Absences due to sickness are excused with notification from a parent if the student has a fever, is vomiting or cannot otherwise get out of bed

  • Absences due to prolonged sickness/injury are excused with a doctor's note

Friday, October 3rd, Home v. Manor - Senior Recognition

Parents will need to purchase a ticket for the game

Parents, please arrive around 6:10pm so we can begin senior recognition at 6:20pm.  You will make your way to the track, right around where our section in the stadium is.  Look for your student’s jacket, they’ll be lined up alphabetically.

  • 7:00am JV at the stadium, V at the practice field

  • 8:10am March On, Dragonettes run through - “Talk to Me, Dance With Me” for Dragonettes

  • 8:30am To the band hall, clean up

  • 9:00am Go to school

  • 4:20pm School ends, EAT, refill DB water jug with water

  • 5:00pm Get dressed in full uniform

  • 5:25pm Inspection

  • 5:40pm Line up to march over to the stadium, stop to play:  “Country Roads” and Fight Song

  • 6:05pm Move into the stands silently

  • 6:15pm A+ Credit Union Check Presentation (right before Senior Recognition)

  • 6:20pm Senior Recognition (seniors lined up alphabetically on the track)

  • 7:00pm Game begins

  • 8:14pm (approx.) Halftime - “Talk to Me, Dance With Me” for Dragonettes, JV performs

  • 9:54pm (approx.) Game ends, move back to the band hall, store things properly

  • 10:25pm (approx.) JV stay to watch the video

  • 10:45pm (approx.) Go home

Saturday, October 4th, Vista Ridge Marching Festival, JV only

  • 5:50am - Report to Band Hall and dress in full uniform

  • 6:20am - Inspection in Band Hall

  • 6:25am - on practice field ready to depart

  • 6:30am - Depart for Gupton Stadium

  • 7:00am - Arrive, unload, move to warm up

  • 7:30am - Warm up 

  • 8:20am - At gate

  • 8:30am - Perform at Vista Ridge Marching Festival

  • 8:45am - Water Station

  • 9:00am (approx) - reload trucks and buses

  • 9:30am (approx) - depart for RRHS

  • 10:00am (approx) - Arrive at RRHS, unload trucks, store instruments and uniform properly

  • 4:30pm (approx) - Directors will send out prelims results via remind!

Tuesday, October 7th - Festival of Bands, Reeves, JV and V

  • 5:00pm Get in full uniform

  • 5:30pm Inspection

  • 6:00pm Depart for Reeves

  • 7:00pm JV warm up, V circle time until 7:30, then move to back stands

  • 7:35pm JV move to gate

  • 7:30pm Event begins with National Anthem and Middle School Band performance

  • 7:45pm JV performs, V in back stands to watch JV

  • 8:00pm V move to warm up, JV load trucks, drop off instruments at bus, move to back stands

  • 8:35pm V move to gate

  • 8:45pm V performs (YES both stages and dogs, NO vinyl)

  • 9:15pm Event Ends

  • 9:20pm Depart for RRHS

  • 9:50pm Arrive, unload, change, clean up

Friday, October 10th, Away v. Hutto

  • 8:30am Rehearsal ends, move back to band hall

  • 4:20pm School ends, EAT, refill DB water jug with water

  • 5:30pm (approx.) Depart for Hutto

  • 6:15pm (approx.) Arrive, unload, move quickly into the stands

  • 7:00pm Game begins

  • 8:08pm (approx.) Halftime, “Feel this Moment” for Dragonettes, V performs (YES both stages and dogs, NO vinyl)

  • 9:57pm (approx.) Game ends, load trucks and buses

  • 10:27pm (approx.) Depart for RRHS

  • 9:10-9:55am Warm Up (area A)

  • 9:15-9:45am Front Ensemble Warm Up

  • 10:15am Perform!! (All props)

  • 10:50am Depart for RRHS

  • 11:15am Arrive, unload, store things properly, go home

  • 2:45pm Report to Band Hall

  • 5:30pm Depart for Reeves

  • 5:50pm Arrive, JV unload and get ready for warm up

    • V remain on buses until 6:05pm

  • 6:05pm V unload trucks and do circle time

  • 6:15-7:00pm JV warm up, area A

  • 7:00pm V sit in back stands to watch JV

  • 7:05pm JV report to gate

  • 7:10pm JV perform

  • 7:25pm JV load trucks, store shakos on buses, meet near buses

  • 7:45pm JV move to back stands to watch bands

  • 7:45pm V back to bus/circle time areas

Grades and Eligibility

  • RRISD Eligibility Calendar

  • Students must remain academically eligible to participate in football games and marching contest performances and all TMEA activities

  • Should a student become ineligible they will still practice with the group during band class and in some cases, outside of the school day

  • There are two types of official grade reporting - IPR (Interim Progress Report) and Report Card

  • We are required to go by these official methods to determine eligibility

Band Class Procedures and Plans

  • General Class Procedures

  • Weekly Class Plans  ​(there are tabs at the bottom of the sheet for JV and V week of)

    • V percussion goes outside daily during class

    • V winds go outside on Tuesdays and Thursdays

    • JV winds and percussion usually go outside on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

  • Region Listening Schedule

    • Directors will listen to students weekly who are planning to audition at TMEA Region Band Auditions in December

Heads Up!

  • Middle School District Band Audition Help Needed!

    • Saturday, November 1st, hosted at Cedar Valley Middle School and Chisholm Trail Middle School

    • Both campus will ask for help from high school band students

    • If you’d like to be a Cedar Valley helper,  sign up here

    • Be on the lookout for a sign up for CTMS

  • Students:  You may not park in the the medical office building parking lots on the other side of the fence from the practice field and campus

    • Doctors from those offices will tow student’s cars

  • Parents for Arts Education

    • We have an amazing opportunity to get in front of thousands of community members (last year over 32,000 people were there!) at the Round Rock Arts Festival on October 3rd-5th

    • Thanks to Scot Wilkenson and the City of Round Rock Arts and Culture Department, PAE/SAE will be covering the "Make Music" area and we need additional volunteers!  

    • Lots of students need service hours (especially "outside" service hours for NHS) and we can provide that

  • FLUTES!

    • All flute students are invited to participate in Austin Flute Society Events this year! We have several events that are made for YOU - the students! Here are a few highlights: 

      • 1) A Concert of Flute and Piano music: Please join us for some amazing LIVE music at St. John's United Methodist Church, Sunday, October 19 at 2 pm.  April Clayton will be playing a flute recital with composer Miguel del Águila at the piano.  There will be a Q & A with the artists after the concert, so come ready with your flutist or composer questions.

      • 2) TMEA High School Region Mock Audition: Performers will receive helpful feedback and tips to make their real audition a success! This will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 at 4 pm at St. John's United Methodist church in Austin. 

      • 3) Flootapalooza is a solo performance opportunity open to all students! Learn any solo or etude and perform it for your friends and family on a beautiful stage! Performers will receive positive feedback and an outstanding performer in each age group will be awarded. This exciting event will be held Saturday, February 7. A sign up form will be on the website soon.

    •  All AFS events are $10 to participate OR students can purchase a $20 membership that is good from now until next August, and all events are FREE! For more information and events, they can visit www.austinflutesociety.org
