Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,

The varsity group is all set to head to San Antonio on Friday for BOA and our  JV group cover football game duties before the rest of the group arrives back from San Antonio.

BOA Grand Nationals Travel Checklist

Next Week’s Rehearsals

  • Monday, JV and V will rehearse during all classes

  • Tuesday, JV will rehearse during class and V will prep for BOA GN with discussion about the trip, maps, etc

  • Wednesday, JV will rehearse during class  and V will continue prep for BOA GN

  • Thursday and Friday,, JV will have a substitute and will need to bring materials to read and study during band class

Football Playoffs

  • If the team advances to playoffs, the first round game will likely be Friday, November 14th, although I don’t know where the game would be held

  •  JV students will attend this game

  • V students will be in Indianapolis

  • Should this occur we will know on Friday and/or Monday about the playoff game and make the necessary arrangements

Attendance

  • If your student is well enough to attend school, they should be coming to practice and events unless they get sick in the middle of the day and are sent home by the nurse

  • Look ahead at the rehearsal and event schedule and plan your appointments and tutorial help around it

  • Attendance at rehearsals and events is mandatory unless otherwise specified

  • Absences due to sickness are excused with notification from a parent if the student has a fever, is vomiting or cannot otherwise get out of bed

  • Absences due to prolonged sickness/injury are excused with a doctor's note

  • Who do I email?  Mr. Mobley for Varsity Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Concert Band 2, Ms. Benford for Junior Varsity Marching Band and Symphonic Band and Ms. Bouhadana for Concert Band 1, Mr. Hammack for all Percussion and Mr. Mendieta for Color Guard

  • Absences that are not excused-birthdays, completing homework, studying, test preparation, part time job, pop concerts, parties, vacations, weekend getaways

Friday, November 7th-Saturday, November 8th - BOA San Antonio Prelims and Home Game vs. Vandegrift

Varsity Friday Schedule

  • 9:00am Rehearsal in the stadium

  • 10:30am Break, instruments by truck for loading, get in half uniform

    • Bring uniform bags on bus

  • 11:15am Load buses

  • 11:30am Depart for Alamodome, EAT lunch on the bus (YOU provide)

    • Get in full prior to our arrival

  • 2:30pm Arrive, circle time near buses

  • 2:50pm Retrieve instruments from trucks

  • 3:10pm Enter stadium for Warm Up

  • 3:25-4:10pm Warm Up (C) 

    • 3:30-4:00pm Front Ensemble Warm Up

    • 4:05pm Front Ens report to gate

  • 4:20pm Report to gate

  • 4:30pm Perform!!

  • 4:45pm Exit stadium, (no photo) load instruments on trucks

  • 5:00pm Depart for RR, EAT dinner on the bus (provided)

    • Get in half before eating

  • 7:30pm Arrive at RRHS, retrieve instruments from truck, store and/or pick up items in band hall,  move to stadium

  • 8:15pm Halftime, “Boogie Shoes” for Dragonettes, JV performs

  • 10:00pm Game ends, move to band hall, store everything properly, go home!

Junior Varsity Friday Schedule

  • 5:15pm Report to Band Hall, get dressed in full uniform

  • 5:45pm Inspection in the Band Hall

  • 6:00pm March to stadium, move into stands

  • 7:00pm Game begins

  • 8:15pm Halftime, “Boogie Shoes” for Dragonettes, JV performs

  • 10:00pm Game ends, move to band hall, store everything properly, go home!

Saturday, November 8th (Varsity only)

  • 11:15am Report to Band Hall

    • Instruments to the truck for loading

  • 11:45am Load buses with uniforms in bags

  • 12:00pm Depart for Alamodome

  • 3:30pm Prelims Awards

  • 4:30pm Dinner (provided)

  • 7:00pm First finalist performs

  • 10:45pm Finals Awards

  • 11:30pm Depart for RR

  • 2:00am Arrive, unload, store items properly and go home!

Monday, November 10th - BOA GN Parent Send Off Show

  • 4:20pm School ends, EAT

  • 5:00pm Get in full uniform

  • 5:30pm Inspection

  • 6:00pm Warm Up

  • 6:45pm Move to stadium

  • 7:00pm Perform

  • 7:20pm Wrap Up, move back to band hall

  • 7:30pm Get out of uniform, take home to pack in your luggage

  • 7:45pm Bring instruments and all equipment  to trucks for loading

  • 8:15pm Head home

All equipment will be loaded on the trucks on Monday evening after the send off show. 

8th Grade Band Parent Meetings

  • We’ll have meetings with parents of 8th grade band students on several dates and would like some high school students and parents to attend as well

    • Students, ideally we have one from each grade level although we need a 9th and a 12th grader at each meeting

    • PARENTS, yes, your perspective is needed too!

  • This meeting provides an overview of what to expect for the school year and the fall semester in particular

  • Complete THIS FORM if you’d like to volunteer to attend and take questions from 8th grade parents and students

Grades and Eligibility

  • RRISD Eligibility Calendar

  • Students must remain academically eligible to participate in football games and marching contest performances and all TMEA activities

  • Should a student become ineligible they will still practice with the group during band class and in some cases, outside of the school day

  • There are two types of official grade reporting - IPR (Interim Progress Report) and Report Card

  • We are required to go by these official methods to determine eligibility

  • IMPORTANT DATES FOR MARCHING SEASON ELIGIBILITY

  • Events students become ineligible for if failing on the October 10th 9 Weeks Grade Check

    • BOA San Antonio

  • NOVEMBER 3 IPR GRADE CHECK DATE

  • NOVEMBER 10 ELIGIBILITY GAIN ONLY

Heads Up!

  • Students:  You may not park in the the medical office building parking lots on the other side of the fence from the practice field and campus

    • Doctors from those offices will tow student’s cars

  • Parents for Arts Education

    • We have an amazing opportunity to get in front of thousands of community members (last year over 32,000 people were there!) at the Round Rock Arts Festival on October 3rd-5th

    • Thanks to Scot Wilkenson and the City of Round Rock Arts and Culture Department, PAE/SAE will be covering the "Make Music" area and we need additional volunteers!  

    • Lots of students need service hours (especially "outside" service hours for NHS) and we can provide that

    • The TXST Horn Studio is hosting Holiday Horns, a community horn choir event open to horn players of all ages and stages

      • The event is free, but registration is required. You can register here. Music will be emailed in early November.

      • 7:30–8:00 PM – Reception with hot chocolate and cookies in the lobby

  • FLUTES

    • All flute students are invited to participate in Austin Flute Society Events this year! We have several events that are made for YOU - the students! Here are a few highlights: 

      • 1) TMEA High School Region Mock Audition: Performers will receive helpful feedback and tips to make their real audition a success! This will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 at 4 pm at St. John's United Methodist church in Austin. 

      • 2) Flootapalooza is a solo performance opportunity open to all students! Learn any solo or etude and perform it for your friends and family on a beautiful stage! Performers will receive positive feedback and an outstanding performer in each age group will be awarded. This exciting event will be held Saturday, February 7. A sign up form will be on the website soon.

    •  All AFS events are $10 to participate OR students can purchase a $20 membership that is good from now until next August, and all events are FREE! For more information and events, they can visit www.austinflutesociety.org
