Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,

What a week!  All four bands made final preparations for UIL on Monday and Tuesday and then we had a flurry of activity on Wednesday and Thursday and the end result is that all four bands gave fantastic performances and earned ones from every single judge at the contest!!  Wow!

Congratulations to the Open class winter guard who competed at their State Championships this past weekend.  The group earned 11th place overall and this finishes out their competitive season!  Great job color guard on your accomplishments this year!!  Hurray!

Band Banquet, Friday, May 1st

  • This event is for everyone in our band program, including families

  • There is a meal first for seniors and their families only, and then everyone comes for the desserts and awards!

  • Seniors at 6:45pm, everyone joins at 7:45pm

Juniors - Letter Jacket Fitting

  • Brass - Monday, May 11th,  7:30am-8:45am

  • Woodwinds - Tuesday, May 12th,  7:30am-8:45am

  • Percussion and Color Guard - Wednesday, May 13th, 7:30-8:45am

Attendance

  • If your student is well enough to attend school, they should be coming to practice and events unless they get sick in the middle of the day and are sent home by the nurse

  • Look ahead at the rehearsal and event schedule and plan your appointments and tutorial help around it

  • The band's calendar is on dragonband.com

  • Attendance at rehearsals and events is mandatory unless otherwise specified

  • Absences due to sickness are excused with notification from a parent if the student has a fever, is vomiting or cannot otherwise get out of bed

  • Absences due to prolonged sickness/injury are excused with a doctor's note

  • Who do I email?  Mr. Mobley for Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony, Ms. Benford for Symphonic Band, Ms. Bouhadana for Concert Band, Mr. Hammack for all Percussion and Mr. Mendieta for Color Guard

  • Absences that are not excused-birthdays, completing homework, studying, test preparation, part time job, pop concerts, parties, vacations, weekend getaways

Grades and Eligibility

  • RRISD Eligibility Calendar

  • Students must remain academically eligible to participate in football games and marching contest performances and all TMEA activities

  • Should a student become ineligible they will still practice with the group during band class and in some cases, outside of the school day

  • There are two types of official grade reporting - IPR (Interim Progress Report) and Report Card

  • We are required to go by these official methods to determine eligibility

    • Camp enrollment closes completely 8 days before camp starts.
