Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,
Band Banquet tonight! I hope to see everyone there - Seniors at 6:45pm, everyone joining at 7:45pm!
3 Things to Know!
With Ms. Benford sadly departing for new adventures, Mr. Butler approved the filling of her Associate Band Director position and it has now been posted by the school district. We’re currently collecting resumes and there’s a wealth of talent to consider! The job has to be posted for a certain amount of business days before we can proceed with interviews, which I’m hopeful will take place in the next several weeks with a new hire in place soon before summer.
Mrs. Schade, our outstanding Band Secretary is leaving! Sadly, we are very sorry to see her go and will miss her! What it means is that we are now looking for someone to fill her shoes. Please let me know if you might be interested and we can cover all this position entails.
SOME CONTEXT: A committee of about 20 “stakeholders” have been meeting over the last 6 weeks to develop a campus plan for the recent bond funds that were passed. In addition to developing a comprehensive campus plan, the committee unanimously agreed on moving forward with Phase 1 that includes: a new academic wing to mirror the current 1400/1500 wings, some badly needed athletic facility replacement including a new entrance to the stadium, a new and improved bus loop and, drum roll please…a new band, choir and orchestra building!!
Before you start cheering, THE FULL PLAN and PHASE 1 MUST BE APPROVED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD at their next meeting and it is subject to change!! Should approval go smoothly, work would take 2-3 years across the campus. There are several other phases to come after this initial one, but based on YOUR feedback and the input of the committee, a larger band hall was near the top of concerns for our campus. Again, the plan and construction of Phase 1 must be approved by the school board!
