10.24.25

Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,

It’s been a strong week of rehearsals for both our V and JV groups, with V gearing up for the Area contest and JV maintaining their show in addition to transitioning to a concert setting.

UIL is aware of the possible inclement weather on Saturday. Here is the information from UIL about the Area contest:

  • "At this point, our plan is to indeed hold the contest on Saturday! The negatives of moving to Monday (transportation, massive volunteer workforce, judges, and more) outweigh the negatives of doing it Saturday. Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare:

    • Please let your parents and administration know that SAFETY will be the first concern, so long delays are possible.

    • Please let your parents and administration know that EXTENSIVE deliberation has been made by Region Executive Secretaries and the UIL state office pursuant to the decision to proceed with the contest on Saturday rather than moving it to Monday.

    • It is possible that a delay could be called WHILE you are in warmup or on the field.

    • Let your parents and patrons know that the stadium will have to be cleared in the event of lightning. They have to go to their cars. Round Rock ISD protocol is that we must wait 30 minutes until after the last lightning within 10 miles.

    • It is possible (although we HOPE this doesn't have to happen) that finals might be canceled - Absolute worst case scenario - but we can't have any band performing after midnight.

    • Please arrange for some kind of cover for your electronic equipment as needed.

    • Feel free to provide some kind of rain gear for the performers.

  • Our hope is that the rain dissipates from the forecast (as it has been trending the past day or so) and that weather conditions are optimal as you perform on Saturday."
