New Dragon Band Assistant Director

Hello All,

I'm very pleased to announce that we have hired a new Assistant Band Director!  Henry Hamre (that's Ham-Ree) comes to us with sterling recommendations and I'm thrilled to have him as part of our team.  The candidates for this position did both a sit down interview and a short teaching segment with our Wind Symphony students.  When we asked those students for their thoughts on the candidates they had excellent insights on all of them, but ultimately when asked who they would hire if they could, they all chose Mr. Hamre!!  The interview committee was not a bit surprised at this and their choice affirmed our own.

More about Mr. Hamre:

Originally from Flower Mound, Texas, Henry Hamre is a graduate of Marcus High School. Mr. Hamre earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Houston where he studied French horn with Robert Johnson. During his time at UH, Mr. Hamre performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and the Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band.

Mr. Hamre began his teaching career as an Assistant Band Director at Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress, Texas, where he conducted the Symphonic Band, directed the Jazz Ensemble, and assisted with the marching band program. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA).

Outside of teaching Mr. Hamre enjoys reading, playing video games, spending time with friends and playing with his two cats.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Hamre to our team!
