Hello Dragon Band Students, Parents and Families,

We had a great Pre UIL Concert on Monday and all the bands are well on their way to success at UIL in a few weeks!

Next Week’s Rehearsals

Band Olympics

  • Today, April 2nd, 6pm to Friday, April 3rd, 6am

  • Friday is a district holiday so the event will be Thursday overnight to Friday 

  • Students participate in fun games as sections and compete for the title of Band Olympics Champions

  • IMPORTANT - Students may not come and go without written permission from their parent

    • PARENTS:

      • If your student will arrive late (after 6pm) email Mr. Mobley

      • If your student must leave early (before 6am) email Mr. Mobley

      • ONLY an email from a parent will suffice, students will not be admitted late or be allowed to leave early without written permission from a PARENT

      • PARENTS - email with the specific time your student will come late or leave early so we can compile our list for directors and chaps

Chamber Ensemble Concert

  • Wednesday, April 8th, 6:30pm, Cedar Ridge Auditorium

  • Everyone  come and listen to these terrific groups!

  • Performances by Jazz Band, Flute Choir, Clarinet Choir, Sax Choir, Trumpet Choir, Horn Choir, Trombone Choir, Tuepha Choir and others!

    • Performers arrive by 6:15pm - warm ups will be 2 groups prior to your performance.  Sit in the audience before and after warming up and performing.

Senior Letter Jacket Photos

  • Mr. Huey will take senior’s photos here at school wearing their letter jackets from 7:45-8:45am

  • Brass - Tuesday, April 7th

  • Woodwinds - Thursday, April 9th

  • Percussion and Color Guard - Friday, April 10th

April Recitals

  • April 13th, 14th or 15th, 6:00-8:45*

  • 1200 Main Building Foyer area

  • Recital Schedule

  • Hour length (approx) segments of students performing for friends and families

    • *Students won’t be there for the full time, but will be there for about an hour to an hour and a half depending on when they’re scheduled to perform

  • Instrumental Choirs also perform!  Students in these  ensembles  (sax choir, tuepha choir, etc.) may perform on multiple evenings

  • Concert Band

    • 9:00am Report to Band Hall, dressed and ready to go

    • 9:10am Load buses and depart

    • 9:40am Arrive, unload

    • 9:50am Warm Up

    • 10:30am Perform

    • 11:00am Sight read

    • 11:20am Done

    • 11:45am Depart for RRHS

    • 12:15pm Arrive, change clothes, continue through your normal school schedule

  • Symphonic Band

    • 9:00am Go to school

    • 10:45am Report to Band Hall, EAT LUNCH-you provide, change clothes

    • 11:45am Load buses  and depart

    • 12:15pm Arrive, unload

    • 12:30pm Warm Up

    • 1:00pm Perform

    • 1:30pm Sight read

    • 1:50pm Done

    • 2:15pm Depart for RRHS

    • 2:45pm Arrive, change clothes, continue through your normal school schedule

  • Wind Symphony

    • Go through your normal school schedule

    • 3:20pm Report to Band Hall, change clothes

    • 3:50pm Depart

    • 4:25pm Arrive, unload

    • 4:40pm Warm Up

    • 5:20pm Perform

    • 5:50pm Sight read

    • 6:10pm Done

    • 6:30pm Depart for RRHS

    • 6:50pm Arrive, go home!

Thursday, April 23rd

  • Wind Ensemble

    • 9:00am Wind Ensemble class

    • 10:30am EAT - you provide, change clothes

    • 11:10am Depart

    • 11:40am Arrive, unload

    • 11:50am Warm Up

    • 12:45pm Perform

    • 1:30pm Sight read

    • 1:50pm Done

    • 2:15pm Depart for RRHS

    • 2:45pm Arrive, change clothes, continue through your normal school schedule

Attendance

  • If your student is well enough to attend school, they should be coming to practice and events unless they get sick in the middle of the day and are sent home by the nurse

  • Look ahead at the rehearsal and event schedule and plan your appointments and tutorial help around it

  • The band's calendar is on dragonband.com

  • Attendance at rehearsals and events is mandatory unless otherwise specified

  • Absences due to sickness are excused with notification from a parent if the student has a fever, is vomiting or cannot otherwise get out of bed

  • Absences due to prolonged sickness/injury are excused with a doctor's note

  • Who do I email?  Mr. Mobley for Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony, Ms. Benford for Symphonic Band, Ms. Bouhadana for Concert Band, Mr. Hammack for all Percussion and Mr. Mendieta for Color Guard

  • Absences that are not excused-birthdays, completing homework, studying, test preparation, part time job, pop concerts, parties, vacations, weekend getaways

Grades and Eligibility

  • RRISD Eligibility Calendar

  • Students must remain academically eligible to participate in football games and marching contest performances and all TMEA activities

  • Should a student become ineligible they will still practice with the group during band class and in some cases, outside of the school day

  • There are two types of official grade reporting - IPR (Interim Progress Report) and Report Card

  • We are required to go by these official methods to determine eligibility

    • Last minute fee of $50 from 8-10 days before each camp starts for commuter camps, 15-17 days before residential camps.

    • Camp enrollment closes completely 8 days before camp starts.
